How to make it

  • in a large mixing bowl, sprinkle the yeast over 6 cups of flour.
  • heat 2 1/4 cups of water. dissolve the sugar, salt and crisco. reserve the remaining 1/4 cup of water.
  • once the water temp is warm (not hot!), begin mixing into the flour and knead well.
  • if the dough is too dry, add more reserved water, 1 tsp at a time until dough is soft but not too dry.
  • cover the dough and let rise for atleast 1 hr.
  • 30min before the dough is ready, begin heating the oil in a deep heavy frying pan at medium heat.
  • pinch off a softball sized ball of dough and roll approx 3/16" thick.
  • cut into 3-4 in squares and fry until golden brown. place on paper towlels to absorb the oil. Enjoy!
