How to make it

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour and spices. Set aside.
  • Combine butter, sugar and salt in a large bowl, beat until smooth. add egg yolks one at a time and beat until smooth. Add vanilla.
  • Add in flour mixture, 1 cup at a time until flully blended.
  • Divid dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Flour surface. roll out to 1/4 inch thickness and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
  • sprinkle with decorative sugar if desired. Bake until golden brown about 12 minutes.
  • Cool.
  • These can also be frosted.
  • store in airtight container.
  • Makes 3 dozen.
