EMPEROR’S COCOA BROWNIES DATED 1952 This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Parnell Estate in Canton, Texas in 1988. Tried and true. Another keeper.

Ingredients
  • 2/3 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs unbeaten
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup salad oil
  • 1 cup coarsely chopped nuts

Directions
  1. Sift together flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt then set aside.
  2. In mixing bowl slightly beat eggs and gradually stir in sugar.
  3. Add vanilla and oil then mix well and stir in flour cocoa mixture.
  4. Add nuts then spread in greased shallow square pan.
  5. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
  6. Cool in pan then cut into squares.
