Garlic And Ginger Grilled Cheese Sandwiches Recipe

Garlic And Ginger Grilled Cheese Sandwiches Recipe
So. ..it's as healthy as grilled cheese sandwiches get...Use a good quality multi-grain bread...the loaf should be somewhat heavy and not squishy. Use a really good cheese for this as well. Also good with diced jalapeƱos.

Ingredients
  • 2-3 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 inch piece fresh ginger
  • olive oil
  • 2 multi-grain bread slices
  • cheese, enough to cover bread thinly sliced (a good sharp cheddar, pepper jack, swiss all work well-- American cheese is NOT going to taste good with this)

Directions
  1. Heat 1 Tbs of olive oil in a skillet
  2. Mince garlic and ginger (I like to do this in a mini-processor)
  3. Sautee garlic and ginger in oil until aromatic, remove from skillet but keep skillet heated
  4. Place cheese on one slice of bread
  5. Spread garlic and ginger on top of cheese and "close" the sandwich with the second bread slice
  6. Make sure skillet is well oiled with olive oil, there should be enough for the bread to absorb and get crisp but not burn
  7. Place the sandwich in the hot skillet and cover for 1-2 minutes
  8. Flip and toast on the other side until cheese melts

What a great idea. Tastes I love, but wouldn't have thought of combining. Thanks.

I used to be completely obsessed with eating raw garlic and so I started making this without cooking the garlic first. But at some point I realised my raw garlic habit was interfering with my love life so I started cooking it a bit. But this was a good way to get down those raw cloves. And still tasty cooked.

That sounds fabulous! Definitely one to try.
