Steak N Kidney Pie Recipe
A very hearty English meat pie. I like to make this anytime. I have found it is best served reheated the next day. Theres usually plenty of it left over.

Ingredients
  • Meat Filling:
  • 1 1/2 LB's of Beef Steak. Cut into bite size pieces
  • (Have used beef brisket with good results.)
  • 1/2 LB of Beef or Lamb Kidney chop to preference.
  • 1 Medium Onion cleaned and chopped.
  • Mushrooms also go nice in this Recipe.
  • 5 Cloves of Garlic Minced or as big as you like them.
  • 4 Tablespoons of Lea and Perins
  • 1 pkg of Pioneer Brand brown Gravy Mix, Follow the directions on the package. (Only one I've gotten to work right)
  • 2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
  • Savory Crust:
  • (I usually use a big glass Pyrex for this. So you may need to adjust for your pan. Also you'll need enough crust for the bottom and the top..)
  • 2 1/4 Cups of Flour
  • 1/4 Tsp Salt
  • 3 oz of Unsated butter
  • 4 oz Lard
  • 1 Egg Yolk for brushing the top
  • 3 Tablespoons of cold water

Directions
  1. If you made this Traditionally it would take 2 hours. But you get the same flavors doing it this way.
  2. You can also short cut ad use packaged Puff Pastry.
  3. But it's not the same as the fresh.
  4. Start off by getting a skillet good and hot.
  5. Add your Onions and Garlic. Cook for 5-10 minutes.
  6. Now add your meat starting with the Steak. Now add your kidney to this until everything is browned good.
  7. Now add your 1/1/2 cups of water and bring to a boil.
  8. Add your gravy mix to the pan. Add your Lea and Perins.
  9. You should now have a nice thick Onion gravy.
  10. Let this cool completely
  11. Preheat your oven to 350 after you have your crust in your pan and everything has cooled.
  12. .
  13. Pour your filling into your crust and cover with the other crust.
  14. Be sure to take a fork and make holes in the top crust once in place.
  15. Brush with egg yolk and bake 45-50 Minutes.
  16. Enjoy!!!
