- 4 cups water (1000 ml) shopping list
- 4 cups mealiemeal (1000 ml) (Maize) shopping list
- 1 teaspoon salt (5 ml) shopping list
- FILLING: shopping list

- 1 kg ground beef (35.27 0z; 2.20 pound) shopping list
- (500 g bacon, cut) shopping list
- 1 onion, chopped shopping list
- 2 cups chopped mushrooms (500 ml) shopping list
- 1 green, red or yellow pepper, chopped shopping list
- 1 packet mushroom sauce powder shopping list
- 2 cups milk (500 ml) shopping list
- 2 - 3 cups grated cheese (500ml - 750 ml) shopping list
- 2 cans sweetcorn shopping list
How to make it
- PORRIDGE:
- ==========
- Bring water and salt to a boil.
- Stir in the mealiemeal until crumbly.
- Lower your stoves heat until very low.
- Put a lid on.
- Let it cook for about an hour, stirring occasionally.
- TART:
- =====
- Stir in the sweetcorn with the porridge.
- Put a layer of the mixture into casserole dish.
- Mix the onion, pepper, mushrooms and ground beef in a pot.
- (You can leave the ground beef and only make the bacon especially when you will have this as a side dish)
- Let simmer until cooked.
- Put a layer on top of the porridge.
- Put a layer of cheese on top.
- Mix the soup powder with the milk.
- Pour half over the layers.
- Put a layer porridge mixture on top.
- Layer all the ground beef on top of that.
- Sprinkle the rest of the cheese over.
- Pour the rest of the sauce over.
- Bake at 350 deg F (180 deg C) until golden brown.
