This is a recipe I have held onto for many years. I received this recipe when I was a child in order to make my own Play dough to play with. I hope you all can have some fun with it!

Ingredients
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cup salt
  • 3 teaspoons salad oil
  • 3 cups water
  • 6 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • Food Coloring (Your favorite colors)

Directions
  1. Mix dry ingredients with water coloring and oil.
  2. Mix gradually in Heavy Aluminum sauce pan.
  3. Cook 3 minutes or until mixture pulls away from sides of pan.
  4. Cool and knead. Store in plastic bags or containers to prevent drying out.
  5. * It works best if you half the recipe*

What is really nice is adding a packet of any flavor Kool-Aid to the mixture...makes it smell wonderful and then you don't need to use the food coloring...thanks for posting, homemade is so much better than store-bought and the ones with cream of tartar and oil are the best because they stay softer!


The mess playdough makes drives me crazy. Still this recipe looks like it's easier to get out of the carpet than the real stuff.
