Ingredients
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup dark molasses
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ginger

Directions
  1. Cream together the sugar and shortening.
  2. Add molasses and unbeaten eggs.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Sift together dry ingredients and stir in.
  5. If dough is too soft to work with, chill in the refrigerator for several hours.
  6. Put 1/4 cup sugar in a small bowl.
  7. Dip fingers into sugar, then pinch off a ball of dough and roll it to the size and shape of a walnut.
  8. Dip the rolled ball into the bowl of sugar.
  9. Place balls on greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.
  10. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
