Shoo Fly Pie Recipe

Shoo Fly Pie Recipe
A southern or Pennsylvaina Dutch dish that is too good to pass up. The story goes that when this pie was baked the aroma of the molasses as it cooled on the window sill would draw flies to the sweetness. Therefore the name of the pie....shoo fly

  • 1 1/2 C flour
  • 1 C brown sugar
  • 1/4 C butter
  • 1/2 t baking soda, dissolved in 3/4 C lukewarm water
  • 1/2 C dark molasses

Directions
  1. Line a standard size pie pan with your favorite pie crust. Do not pre-bake. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Make crumbs by mixing together the flour, sugar and butter.
  3. In another bowl, mix together soda, water and molasses. Pour this mixture in the pie shell; sprinkle the crumbs all over the top.
  4. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes or until pie is firm and top is lightly browned. Another one of those that I need to bake before adding the photo. Sorry
