I made this up from stuff I happened to have on my shelf and company was coming! It turned out very well, and I plan to do it again and again.

Ingredients
- 24 Dates
- Garlic-flavored Hummus (buy it or make it)
- Parmesan cheese, a small block
- Balsamic Vinegar, the best you can afford
- Fresh Basil leaves
Directions
- Cut one side of each date, and stuff the dates with the Hummus. Be as generous as you dare.
- Shave small shards of the Parmesan and stick them into the Hummus, so that they stand out from the date.
- Sprinkle a wee bit of Balsamic over all the stuffed dates. Be stingy.
- Mince the fresh basil and sprinkle it over the stuffed dates.
- Serve on a pretty plate, lined with a paper doily.
- Each mouthful (2 per serving) gives sweetness (dates), tartness (garlic), softness (hummus), firmness (cheese), freshness (basil), and the wisdom of age (balsamic).
