Rustic Puff Pastry Apple Tart

- 1 pkg. frozen puff pastry sheets (2 sheets) shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 1 tbsp. water shopping list
- 1 can or jar (21 oz.) apple sauce shopping list
- 4 medium apples, peeled and cored, thinly sliced shopping list
- 2 Tbsp firmly packed brown sugar shopping list
- 2 Tbsp flour shopping list
- 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon shopping list
- 1 Tbsp 4 spices OR pumpkin pie spices shopping list
- 2 Tbsp lemon peel, grated shopping list
How to make it
- Thaw pastry sheets at room temperature 30 min. Preheat oven to 400°F. Mix egg and water.
- Unfold pastry sheets. Place 1 pastry sheet on baking sheet. Spread apple sauce on pastry to within 1" of edges. Brush edges with egg mixture. Arrange sliced apples on top of the apple sauce.
- In a small bowl mix together sugar, flour, spices and lemon peel. Mix well. Sprinkle over the apples.
- Place remaining pastry sheet over pie filling. Press edges together to seal. Brush with egg mixture. Cut several 2" slits in top of pastry.
- Bake 30-40 min. or until golden.
- Cool on baking sheet on wire rack at least 15 min.
- Cut into squares or rounds with a cookie cuter and sprinkle with powder sugar and more apple sauce if desire.
