A recipe that dates back to Colonial times. Start the day before you want to try it. Raspberry Shrub is a fine old hot weather drink, easy to put up from wild or cultivated berries. Perfect hot weather beverage. *wink*

Ingredients
  • Raspberries-Fresh/ 4 quarts
  • Vinegar (cider vinegar is best for this)or White Vinegar ,if you prefer
  • Sugar
  • Water or Soda Water
  • Ice
  • Bottles for bottling
  • **Grown Up Option** For Cocktail alternative add Dark Rum *wink*

Directions
  1. Place raspberries in large agateware kettle or stone jar.
  2. Cover with vinegar, just enough so that the berries will not float.
  3. Allow the mixture to stand overnight.
  4. In the morning squeeze mixture through a cheesecloth.
  5. For each cup of strained liquid, add 1 cup sugar; boil for 20 minutes. Bottle when cool. Store in cool place.
  6. To serve, put into a glass as much of the raspberry shrub as you would use of concentrated grape juice; then fill the glass with ice cold water or cracked ice. Then add *Grown Up alternative if you like*....
