Treacle Toffee Recipe


TREACLE TOFFEE Recipe
Have made this all my life - even whilst still at school, where we sold some in the playground to friends. A great favourite with m y Son, who still makes it himself to this day. good at any time, especially Halloween

Ingredients
  • 2 lbs. Brown Sugar
  • 2 lbs. Black Treacle
  • 1/2 lb. Margarine

Directions
  1. Put all ingredients together into a pan, allow to dissolve slowly, stirring all the time.
  2. Bring mixture to boil and allow to boil for 5 minutes, again stirring.
  3. Test a drop of mixture in a saucer of cold water for Brittleness
  4. When o.k. Turn into a greased bakin g tin and allow to set and go cool.
  5. When almost set, mark squares or oblongs with a knife, cuting right through the mixture.
  6. When perfectly set it may be broken into pieces
  7. ENJOY

Definitely an old recipe! I'd almost be willing to wager that hardly anybody under 50 even knows what treacle is (unless they're Harry Potter fans)! I'll have to try this with my kids as it's so simple, and actually sort of good for you--at least as good as candy CAN be, with all the vitamins in the treacle. I'm assuming you're not using golden syrup as the recipe calls for BLACK treacle??
