Softly Simmered Onions

- 2 sticks unsalted butter shopping list
- 3 pounds onions, sliced 1/4" thick shopping list
- 1 cup burgundy shopping list
- 3/4 cup red wine vinegar shopping list
- 1/2 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
How to make it
- Melt butter in large heavy pan over low heat. Add onions, wine, vinegar, sugar, pepper & salt and stir well. Cover and cook slowly over low heat, stirring frequently for about an hour. Remove cover and cook 2 hours longer, stirring occasionally, until the onions are nearly carmelized.
- Make these at the same time you are making the shredded beef. Spoon over beef in buns.
