Anise Seed Biscotti Recipe
A dear friend of mine gave me this recipe years ago. I haven't made them in a while, but I remember being very pleased with their taste the first time I tried this recipe.

Ingredients
  • 1 cube Butter
  • 1 Tbs. Shortening
  • 4 Eggs
  • 2 Cups Sugar
  • 4 1/2 Cups Flour
  • 3 tsp. Baking Powder
  • 2 tsp. Anise Seed
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 1 Cup Blanched Almonds or Walnuts chopped or both

Directions
  1. Cream butter, shortening, eggs and sugar.
  2. Add anise seeds, vanilla and nuts.
  3. Starting with flour, add sifted flour, baking powder and salt alternately with milk.
  4. Make 2 long rolls about two inches wide.
  5. Put on floured board and work dough lightly with a little additional flour.
  6. Bake rolls on cookie sheet about 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
  7. When slightly brown, remove from oven and cut each roll diagonally about 3/4-inch wide. Turn each cookie on side and toast each side in oven about five more minutes until brown.
  8. Cool on wire rack.

Oh my I do so love anise, I used to make pizzelle all the time. Will be making these this weekend!!
