How to make it

  • Combine sugar n flour and mix well in top of double boiler.Blend in milk ,vanilla and egg yolks. Add butter.Cook over boiling water cook until thick and smooth about 7 minutes.
  • Remove from heat n let cool in pan of ice water. Don't stir.
  • Slice several banana's and line bottom of pie crust, add vanilla wafers over top of banana's. Top with cooled pudding filling.Refrigerate several hours.
  • Before serving arrange more banana slices around outside edge of pie and sprinkle with vanilla wafer crumbs.
  • Variations
  • Cocoa Creme Pie
  • Add 4 tablespoons cocoa to sugar n flour and use 2 tablespoons margarine. Place in baked pie shell
  • Butterscotch Creme Pie
  • Substitute 3/4 cup packed brown sugar for the white sugar. Place in baked pie shell
  • Vanilla creme Pie
  • Eliminate bananas n wafer. Pour into baked pie shell

    I always looked forward to eating this at my grandmother's house for "Sunday dinner"...she would serve it warm and I swear it just melted in your mouth...thanks for bringing back a great memory, and for sharing your family recipe - I will make this one for sure!
