Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/2 Cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup nuts (optional)

Directions
  1. Mix milk, butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar and salt in heavy pan. Cook at medium heat until boiling. Boil exactly 6 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add vanilla extract,cocoa and confectioners’ sugar. Beat with mixer until smooth and thick. Add nuts, if desired. Pour into a buttered pan and freeze 20 minutes. Cut into pieces.
  2. Makes approximately 1 pound of fudge.
  3. Peanut Butter Mackinac Island Fudge
  4. Reduce butter to 1/4 cup and add 1/2 cup peanut butter
  5. Great Hint: If you want to make "authentic" Michigan fudge, when the
  6. fudge has cooled somewhat,( find that marble cheese server your sister in law gave you years back and never used) and spoon the mixture on it and make a log! Then chill of course.....Wink

Wooo Hooo...FUDGE!...the only fudge I have ever liked was Mac Ild. fudge...Ruba's I think was the name...always went there as a kid and still want FUDGE!!! Never guess I love FUDGE!!! Thanks for the great recipe...can't wait to try.


OMG! My son who is now 28 yrs old, was brought to Mackinac at the age of 10 when he visited his Grandparents who lived in Michigan. I will show him this recipe.He will really appreciate those memories. Thank-you for this post.

I got side tracked with company, but was determined to make this. It was very easy to make...I added pecans. It cured my sweet tooth.

Alterations


I just made, using half the ingredients (half the guilt) and used a glad throw a away container (greased) to chill and set.. A breeze! And good.
