How to make it

  • Combine water and sugar in large, heavy saucepan; boil and stir until sugar is dissolved.
  • Add strawberries and simmer for 2 minutes
  • Pour berries and syrup into large shallow pans and cover with cheesecloth.
  • Place the pans in the sun for 3 or 4 days on a sunporch or outside.
  • When berries are deep red and syrup is gelled, pack in sterilized jars.
  • Cover with thin layer of paraffin
