Ingredients

1/2 cup hot water

2 lbs sugar

2 lbs strawberries, cleaned and hulled

cheesecloth

paraffin

sterilized jars

Directions

Combine water and sugar in large, heavy saucepan; boil and stir until sugar is dissolved.

Add strawberries and simmer for 2 minutes

Pour berries and syrup into large shallow pans and cover with cheesecloth.

Place the pans in the sun for 3 or 4 days on a sunporch or outside.

When berries are deep red and syrup is gelled, pack in sterilized jars.

Cover with thin layer of paraffin
