How to make it

  • Peel bananas, slice in half lengthwise
  • In skillet, saute in butter until golden brown
  • Drain on paper towel
  • Place on a large platter or dessert plate
  • Cool
  • Sprinkle 1/2 of the sugar, (1/4 cup), over bananas
  • In bowl, whip the cream until stiff peaks form
  • Folding in the remaining 1/4 cup sugar, rum, and vanilla
  • Cover bananas with this mixture
  • Chill
  • Serve sprinkled with ground cloves OR cinnamon OR both
