How to make it

  • Prep time includes chill time for the dough
  • Make one recipe of pastry (2 cup flour)
  • roll out thin on lightly floured pastry cloth
  • Cut in 4 inch rounds use saucer and cut around with a sharp knife.
  • Put 2 heaping tablespoons of strawberry preserves, raspberry jam, or apricot jam or applesauce in the center of each round.
  • Brush edges with cold water.
  • Now fold over to make a turnover.
  • Be sure to press edges very firmly together sealing with tines of a fork.
  • Fry a few at a time in hot deep fat (375) until golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towels and dust with 4x sugar.
