Fudge Upside Down Cake

- ******Cake****** shopping list
- 2 cups unbleached flour shopping list
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder shopping list
- 4 tsp. baking powder shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. salt shopping list
- 1 2/3 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts shopping list
- 1 cup milk, room temperature shopping list
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted shopping list
- 2 tsp. vanilla shopping list
- 1 oz. unsweetened chocolate, melted shopping list
- ******Sauce****** shopping list
- 1 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar shopping list
- 1/2 cup plus 2 tbls. unsweetened cocoa powder shopping list
- 1 3/4 cup hot water shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
- For the cake: Generously butter a 9x13 baking dish.
- Stir first 4 ingredients into a large bowl.
- Mix in sugar and nuts.
- Whisk milk, butter, and vanilla in medium bowl.
- Add to dry ingredients and beat well.
- Beat in chocolate.
- Spoon batter into prepared dish; smooth top. Set aside while preparing sauce.
- For the sauce: mix both sugars and cocoa in a medium bowl. Gradually add hot water and stir until smooth.
- Gently pour sauce over back of spoon onto cake batter covering completely.
- Bake until cake is firm to the touch and top is well browned.
- Let cake cool slightly.
- The sauce sinks to the bottom when baking, but when serving flip it upright with a scoop of vanilla ontop.
- It's right to share no matter what you are feeling when you taste the first bite.
