Ingredients
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/8 tsp. cinnamon
  • 6 slices bread (the older, the better; and I use Texas Toast bread)
  • 1 tbsp. (or more, as needed) butter
  • Maple syrup, jam, powdered sugar or strawberry sauce - see recipe below (for topping)

Directions
  1. Beat eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon in a shallow bowl or small baking pan.
  2. Dip bread into egg mixture (don't soak the bread for too long) and coat both sides.
  3. Melt butter in skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add bread in batches and cook 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  5. Add more butter as needed.
  6. Serve the toast warm with syrup, jam, or powdered sugar. (I often serve them with Strawberry Sauce).
  7. Strawberry Sauce
  8. 1 pt. strawberries, hulled
  9. 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  10. 2 tbsp. lemon juice
  11. Cut strawberries into halfes. Saute strawberries, sugar and lemon juice until it becomes sauce-like. Makes about 1 2/3 cups.

I kinda wish I had the straweberries to go with this- as for bread, I'm trying leftover bagels.

Great, i did not use butter, i had a non stick pan!

These were awesome. I used some old Cuban bread that was about to go off, and the strawberry sauce was delicious.
