French Toast

- 2 eggs shopping list
- 1/2 cup milk shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla shopping list
- 1/8 tsp. cinnamon shopping list
- 6 slices bread (the older, the better; and I use Texas toast bread) shopping list
- 1 tbsp. (or more, as needed) butter shopping list
- maple syrup, jam, powdered sugar or strawberry sauce - see recipe below (for topping) shopping list
How to make it
- Beat eggs, milk, vanilla and cinnamon in a shallow bowl or small baking pan.
- Dip bread into egg mixture (don't soak the bread for too long) and coat both sides.
- Melt butter in skillet over medium heat.
- Add bread in batches and cook 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Add more butter as needed.
- Serve the toast warm with syrup, jam, or powdered sugar. (I often serve them with Strawberry Sauce).
- Strawberry Sauce
- 1 pt. strawberries, hulled
- 1/2 c. granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp. lemon juice
- Cut strawberries into halfes. Saute strawberries, sugar and lemon juice until it becomes sauce-like. Makes about 1 2/3 cups.
