Iron Bars Recipe
A high iron snack bar. You can add different dried fruits and nuts, to your preference. Great for hiking, fishing, hunting, boating, cycling, etc.

Ingredients
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 cup raisins, chopped
  • 1/2 cup other dried fruit(ie apricot, plums, dates, etc), chopped
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey(or molasses, even better)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup dry milk
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ
  • 11/2t baking powder
  • 1/2t baking soda
  • 1 cup chopped nuts(almonds, pecans, walnuts, etc)
  • 1/2 cup milk(soy is fine)
  • 1 cup quick cooking oats
  • 1/2t salt
  • 1/2t ginger
  • 1/2t cinnamon
  • 1/2t nutmeg

Directions
  1. Cream butter, sugar and honey.
  2. Combine flour, dry milk, wheat germ, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.
  3. Add to creamed mixture slowly and alternately with milk.
  4. Mix until well combined.
  5. Stir in oats, fruits and nuts.
  6. Spread into 9X13 baking dish sprayed with no stick spray and bake at 350 for about 30 minutes.
  7. Cool in pan and cut into bars.
