This is the favorite side dish especially at Easter and Christmas Dinners. It is delicious. You do not need to load up-it is very filling if you do load up you could end up in the emergency room. Support your local farmer

Ingredients
  • * 3 lbs Yukon gold potatoes peeled and sliced thin (soak in cold water if not assembling immediately).
  • * 1 lg yellow onion sliced thin SAUTEEDuntil translucent
  • * 2 cups of heavy cream
  • * 1/2 lb. plus 4 tbl. shredded gruyere cheese to sprinkle on top
  • * Butter to saute the onion
  • * Butter to coat the glass dish for baking
  • * Salt, pepper and paprika to taste
  • * Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Directions
  1. 1. Add potatoes, cream, onions, cheese and seasonings into a mixing bowl; mix well
  2. 2. Place into buttered glass baking dish
  3. 3. Press down on mixture firmly until level
  4. 4. Sprinkle with remaining cheese
  5. 5. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour or until the potatoes are soft and the crust is golden brown.
