Brown Sugar Angel Food Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 cups(14-16)egg whites
  • 1-1/2 tsp.cream of tartar
  • 2 tsps.vanilla extract
  • 2 cups brown sugar,firmly packed
  • 1-1/2 cups sifted cake flour

Directions
  1. Beat the egg whites with the cream of tartar,vanilla and salt until stiff peaks form.
  2. Gradually sift 1 cup of the sugar into the beaten whites and beat to incorporate.
  3. Sift remaining sugar with all the flour and gently fold it into the whites.
  4. Gently turn the batter into an ungreased 10-inch tube pan and bake at 350 degreesF.for 45-50 minutes.
  5. (When done,the cake should spring back at the touch of a finger.)
  6. Let cake cool before serving.
  7. Personal Notes
  8. I baked the cake as it states above.But I let it cool upside down for 2 hours before turning out of the pan.I did find the bottom of the pan was a little hard to remove from the cake.It was still slightly warm so perhaps I should have left it cool longer
  9. Next time I will sift the remaining sugar and flour together and gently fold into the egg whites 1/3 at a time.
  10. Don't overmix.

Could be topped with Homemade Whip Cream,served with Ice Cream,even a nice custard or even a caramel sauce.

I love a good angelfood cake...I would serve mine with fresh berries and a big dollop of whipped cream.
