Spoon Brown Bread

- 1 and 1/2 cups quick cooking oats shopping list
- 2 TBSP shortening shopping list
- 2 cups boiling water shopping list
- 1 cup molasses shopping list
- 1 TBSP yeast shopping list
- 1 cup warm water shopping list
- 1 tsp sugar shopping list
- 5 cups flour shopping list
- 2 tsp salt shopping list
How to make it
- Put oatmeal and shortening into a saucepan.
- Pour hot water in and stir well. Allow to cool before adding in the molasses. Mix well.
- Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water.
- Pour the oatmeal mixture and the dissolved yeast mixture in a large bowl.
- Add the flour and salt and mix well.
- Cover and allow to rise overnight.
- Spoon into loaf pans and let rise again for 1 and 1/2 hours. (I always make them into rolls instead of loaves)
- Bake 30 minutes.
Stir in molasses to oatmeal mixture.
Close
Put oatmeal mixture in a big bowl add dissolved yeast.
Close
Mix in the flour.
Close
Allow to rise overnight.
Close
Shape into rolls (or loaves if you prefer.)
Close
Let them rise for 1 and 1/2 hours.
Close
After 1 and 1/2 hours...
Close
Bake and enjoy!
