How to make it

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees
  • Generously grease and lightly flour a 10-inch tube pan or a 12-cup Bundt pan.
  • Sprinkle the nuts over the bottom of the pan
  • Mix cake mix, pudding mix, eggs, water, oil and rum.
  • Pour over the nuts.
  • Bake 50-60 minutes
  • Cool cake on a wire rake for 15 minutes.
  • Prick the top with an ice pick or skewer and drizzle the glaze over the cake, allowing time for cake to absorb the glaze, at least 4 hours.

  • Glaze directions:
  • Melt butter in a small saucepan. Stir in water and sugar. Heat for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, but to not boil. Remove from heat; stir in rum and mix well.

    Oh and the original recipe called for 4 eggs, I don't see any eggs in your ingredients list...?

    In the 70s this was known as Bacardi rum cake and was very popular at bring-alongs--- especially at church picnics! ;) A bit of advice: use the real thing, it's SO much better than extract.
