  • 2 tsp. olive oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped red bell pepper
  • 1 lb. bulk pork sausage (you can used either hot or sweet)
  • 4 (16 oz.) cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp.Italian seasoning
  • 2 bay leaves
  • pinch red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 lb. pkg. Mostaccioli pasta
  • 1/2 cup shredded Italian cheese blend

Directions
  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Stir in the onion and the red pepper, and cook until they are limp about about 5 miinutes. Add the pork sausage, cook and stir until the sausage is crumbly and browned, about 10 minutes. Drain and discard any excess fat, then stir in the tomatoes, the seasonings and the sugar. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer 20-30 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of salted water to boil over high heat. Add the pasta, and cook until al dente, about 10-12 minutes. Drain the pasta, then toss with the red sauce and the Italian cheese blend. Stir until the cheese has melted. Season to taste with salt and pepper before serving.
