Ingredients

How to make it

  • Mix sugar, flour and shortening until lumpy. Do not mix until creamy. Take out 1 cup for topping.
  • Dissolve soda in hot coffee and add to the flour mixture.
  • Also add egg and vanilla.
  • Spread in sheet pan 9x12x2 inch and sprinkle on topping.
  • This is a thin batter. Bake at 325-350 degrees approximately 30 minutes.

  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar after baked.OR (better)>>
  • Delicious drizzled with cream cheese icing and topped with toasted almonds!

    I don't bake but I might try this. When you say soda, are you refering to the drink Coke or baking soda?

    I'll switch out the shortening for butter which will change this a tad but I know with that tiny tweak I'll adore this coffee cake.
    I've bookmarked this for a day I have the urge to make brunch.
