Ingredients

How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • ============================================
  • Beat the butter and sugar together until light.
  • Add the eggs and beat.
  • Sift the dry ingredients together and add to the batter alternatively
  • with the buttermilk; beat until smooth.
  • Pour into a deep dish pie shell and bake at 400F for 10 minutes,
  • reduce heat to 350F and bake for 50-60 additional minutes.
  • Pie should turn a nice golden brown and a knife inserted should
  • come out clean.
  • ============================================
  • I think it is absolutely best when it is just still (very slightly) warm.
  • Delicious with fresh whipped cream!

    Lana, when I was a little girl, my grandmother's buttermilk pie was my favorite pie in the world! I've never been able to come close to her recipe until today. I remember that it was a simple recipe w/ just a few ingredients. When I found your recipe, it looked too good to be true. I baked the pie ~ OMG, Lana! My husband got to eat my grandmother's buttermilk pie today, thanks to you! It's the best I've ever eaten since I was a wee girl on the farm. My one bit of advice to other bakers is to watch their ovens carefully while baking their first one. After the initial 10 mins. @ 400, it took only 40 more minutes @ 350 for my oven to bake the pie. Thanks for the awesome post! Happy Thanksgiving, my g/r/ friend! This one scores 15 on a scale of 1-5, truly.

    I had this one time it was called egg pie and I thought it was odd until I tasted it. I have never tasted it since but this sounds very close to it. Thanks for the post.
