Hearty Sausage Sandwich Recipe

A sandwich that is lip-smackin-good

Ingredients
- 1 lb. bulk sweet Italian sausage
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, cubed
- 1/4 cup mushrooms, chopped
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 tsp. dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp. dried basil
- 1 (1 lb.) loaf unsliced Italian bread
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Directions
- In a large skillet, cook the sausage, onion, bell pepper and garlic over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Add the cream cheese, mushrooms, Parmesan cheese, water, oregano and basil. Cook and stir intil cheese is melted.
- Cut bread in half horizontally; hollow out top and bottom, leaving a 3/4" shell (save removed bread for another use).
- Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese on the bottom; top with the sausage mixture and then remaining cheese
- Put the bread top on. Wrap loaf in foil. Place on a baking sheet.
- Bake in a 375* oven for 20 minutes
