How to make it

  • Brown sausage and reduce heat.
  • Cook 15 minutes longer.
  • In another skillet brown onions in 1 T of shortening.
  • Halve 6 sausages length wise
  • Set aside.
  • Add all but cornmeal, salt and cheese.
  • bring to boil
  • Reduce heat and simmer 25 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375.
  • Combine cornmeal, and 3 cups of water.
  • Boil til thick
  • Remove from heat.
  • Cool 5 minutes.
  • Layer half of cornmeal mix in 3 qt casserole.
  • top with half of sausage, half of cheese.
  • Repeat
  • Arrange reserved sausage on top.
  • Bake covered 25 min. uncovered 5.
