Italian sausage polenta pie

- 11/2 lb italian sausage shopping list
- 1 onion sliced shopping list
- 1 clove garlic, crushed. shopping list
- 1 can (1lb) tomatoes shopping list
- 1 can tomato sauce shopping list
- 3/4 t. salt shopping list
- 1/2 t oregano shopping list
- 1/2 t. sugar shopping list
- 1/2 t basil leaves shopping list
- 1/8 t. pepper shopping list
- 11/2 c cornmeal shopping list
- 3/4 t. salt shopping list
- 1 cup grated cheese shopping list
- 1 T Crisco shortening shopping list
How to make it
- Brown sausage and reduce heat.
- Cook 15 minutes longer.
- In another skillet brown onions in 1 T of shortening.
- Halve 6 sausages length wise
- Set aside.
- Add all but cornmeal, salt and cheese.
- bring to boil
- Reduce heat and simmer 25 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375.
- Combine cornmeal, and 3 cups of water.
- Boil til thick
- Remove from heat.
- Cool 5 minutes.
- Layer half of cornmeal mix in 3 qt casserole.
- top with half of sausage, half of cheese.
- Repeat
- Arrange reserved sausage on top.
- Bake covered 25 min. uncovered 5.
