How to make it

  • Soak gelatin in 1/2 cup applesauce for 10 minutes.
  • In a heavy saucepan, bring remaining applesauce, sugar and salt to a boil; add gelatin mixture and boil for 15 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add nuts and vanilla.
  • Pour into a greased 11x7" baking dish. Cover and let set for 48 hours before cutting into squares and rolling in powdered sugar.

    I live in Waterville, WA which is about 25 miles from Wenatchee - the Apple Capital of the World, and about 30 miles from Cashmere, WA, which is where Liberty Orchards (the Aplets and Cotlets factory) is located. These are definitely a favorite in this area - I know I love them! I tried a recipe last Christmas from the internet for these and they were TERRIBLE - nothing at all like the original and they had a gross taste and texture. Your recipe looks much better and I will definitely try it! It is printing now. Thanks so much! - Natalie
