Ingredients

2 envelopes unflavored gelatin

1 1/4 cup applesauce, divided

2 cups sugar

Pinch of salt

1 cup finely chopped walnuts

2 tsp. vanilla

Powdered sugar

Directions

Soak gelatin in 1/2 cup applesauce for 10 minutes.

In a heavy saucepan, bring remaining applesauce, sugar and salt to a boil; add gelatin mixture and boil for 15 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add nuts and vanilla.

Pour into a greased 11x7" baking dish. Cover and let set for 48 hours before cutting into squares and rolling in powdered sugar.

These are definitely a favorite in this area - I know I love them! I tried a recipe last Christmas from the internet for these and they were TERRIBLE - nothing at all like the original and they had a gross taste and texture.
