Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup applesauce

Directions
  1. In a mixing bowl, cream sugar and butter.
  2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Combine dry ingredients; add to the creamed mixture alternately with applesauce.
  4. Mix just until combined.
  5. Fill greased or paper-lined muffin cups two-thirds full.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.
  7. Cool on a wire rack.
  8. Yield: about 1 1/2 dozen.
