Ingredients
  • 1/2 pound butter
  • 1 cup sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ pound (2 cups) chopped pecans
  • 2 1/4 cups sifted flour

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°.
  2. Cream butter thoroughly.
  3. Add powdered sugar, a little at a time.
  4. Beat until very light and fluffy.
  5. Add vanilla.
  6. Using a wooden spoon, add flour alternately with chopped nuts.
  7. Place mounds of dough onto a cookie sheet. Do not compress the dough. Just pat it gently to hold shape.
  8. Bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes. Watch carefully.
  9. Remove from baking sheet and cool on a wire rack.
  10. When cooled, dip cookies into powdered sugar.
  11. NOTE: You do not want to beat the flour into the butter. Incorporating the flour and nuts by hand is imperative. You also want to handle the dough as little as possible when forming the cookies. The dough may seem dry and seem as if the cookies won't hold shape, but they do.
