Chocolate HoHo Cake Recipe
Moist chocolate cake with a creme filling topped with a chocolatey layer-so much like eating a Hostess HoHo!! This is a tried-and-true recipe from a wonderful cookbook of mine whose recipes are from families in our school district.

Ingredients
  • 1 package devil's food or chocolate cake mix, any brand, but I prefer Duncan Hines!
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 stick butter or margarine, melted
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 can ready-to-spread chocolate frosting

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees,
  2. Prepare 9 x 13-inch cake pan by spraying with nonstick cooking spray or by greasing and flouring.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, mix and prepare chocolate cake mix according to package directions.
  4. Bake according to directions on box, approximately 35 minutes.
  5. Remove cake from oven when done and let cool completely.
  6. While cake is cooling, prepare white cream filling:
  7. In medium mixing bowl with electric mixer at medium-high speed, beat together granulated sugar, melted butter or margarine, shortening, vanilla, evaporated milk, and salt until light and fluffy. (About 5 minutes.)
  8. Spread cream filling on cooled cake.
  9. Refrigerate until set (approximately 20 minutes.)
  10. Remove foil seal on can of ready-to-spread frosting.
  11. Microwave container of frosting on high for about 60 seconds.
  12. Stir until smooth.
  13. Drizzle frosting on top of creme filling on cake.
  14. Spread carefully with spatula or knife to evenly cover creme filling.
  15. Refrigerate until set and ready to serve.
  16. Chocoholics rejoice! :))
