Fudge Filled Peanut Butter Bars Recipe

Ingredients

1pkg. yellow cake mix

1 cup creamy peanut butter

1/2 cup melted butter

2 eggs

Filling:

6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

2 TBSP butter

14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk

1 pkg. coconut pecan frosting mix

Directions

In large mixing bowl combine cake mix, peanut butter, butter and eggs. Stir by hand until dough holds together.

Press 2/3 of dough into bottom of ungreased 9 x 13 inch pan.

Prepare filling.

In large saucepan combine chips, condensed milk and butter.

Melt over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth.

Remove from heat and mix in frosting mix.

Spread filling over dough.

Crumble remaining 1/3 of dough over filling.

Bake at 350 for 20 to 25 minutes, until golden.

Bake at 325 if using a glass cake dish.

Cool before cutting into squares.

The frosting mix used to come in a box. It is what you used for German Chocolate Cake. I haven't made these in over a year so the only way to buy it now maybe in a can. I'll have to look next time I'm in a store.

Okay friends and browsers; I checked three grocery stores and they don't sell the Coconut-Pecan Frosting Mix in a box anymore. At least at the ones I checked. Only two were nationals; Kroeger and Safeway/Dominic's. So I made these bars two ways over the last couple of days. I used the canned frosting mix which was just fine. I made my own coconut-pecan frosting mix. But I think both my food proccessor and I got tired. Unless you have nothing else to do all afternoon or morning or evening.
