Szechuan Braised Meatballs

- 1lb lean ground beef shopping list
- 1 5-6oz can water chestnuts, rinsed and finely chopped shopping list
- 2tsp+1T cornstarch, divided shopping list
- 1/2tsp 5 spice powder shopping list
- 1/4tsp salt shopping list
- 1c salt reduced beef broth shopping list
- 4tsp canola oil shopping list
- 2 garlic cloves, minced shopping list
- crushed red pepper to taste shopping list
- 1/4c szechuan sauce shopping list
- 4c shredded napa(chinese) cabbage shopping list
- 1 15oz. can straw mushrooms, rinsed shopping list
- 2 green onions sliced shopping list
How to make it
- Mix beef, chestnuts, 2tsp cornstarch, 5 spice and salt. Shape into 12 balls
- Whisk broth and remaining cornstarchin a small bowl
- Heat 2tsp oil in pan and brown meatballs. Transfer to plate.
- Add remaining oil to pan; add the garlic and pepper, cook until fragrant. Add reserved broth mixture, Szechuan sauce, cabbage and mushrooms; cook until cabbage is just wilted.
- Reduce heat to simmer, add meatballs, cover and cook until sauce is thickened and meatballs are fully cooked.
- Sprinkle with green onions.
- Serve with rice.
