How to make it

  • Mix beef, chestnuts, 2tsp cornstarch, 5 spice and salt. Shape into 12 balls
  • Whisk broth and remaining cornstarchin a small bowl
  • Heat 2tsp oil in pan and brown meatballs. Transfer to plate.
  • Add remaining oil to pan; add the garlic and pepper, cook until fragrant. Add reserved broth mixture, Szechuan sauce, cabbage and mushrooms; cook until cabbage is just wilted.
  • Reduce heat to simmer, add meatballs, cover and cook until sauce is thickened and meatballs are fully cooked.
  • Sprinkle with green onions.
  • Serve with rice.
