How to make it

  • CAKE:
  • Pour boiling water over raisins & let it soak til cool; do this way ahead of time so they'll be cool by the time they're needed for the batter;
  • Cream butter and sugar;
  • Add eggs, one at a time;
  • Beat in nutmeg and cinnamon;
  • In separate bowl put flour, salt and baking soda;
  • Add flour mixture to butter mixture alternately with raisin mixture.
  • Pour into greased and floured oblong cake pan.
  • Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. Top will e browned nicely and edges pulled away.
  • FROSTING:
  • Stir butter, brown suar and cream over low heat til dissolved;
  • Boil to soft ball stage;
  • Beat until cooled, then add 1 t. vanilla.
  • Spread over cake after cake has cooled.
