Party Pleaser - Sausage Pastry Bites
From crainny 15 years agoIngredients
- 1 box frozen puff pastry shopping list
- 1 lbs roll of any kind of mild spice sausage (or if you are a vegetarian, boil potatoes and mash them - it will be equally good) shopping list
- 1 medium onion or 3 nice size shallots shopping list
- your favorite fresh herbs, finely chopped shopping list
- 1-2 tbsp chopped pine nuts (optional) shopping list
- 1 tbsp butter shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 3-4 tbsp sesame seeds, black sesame seeds, or poppy seeds for decoration shopping list
How to make it
- Thaw puff pastry according to instructions.
- Meanwhile, prepare the farce:
- Finely chop the onions (shallots)
- Melt butter in a skillet and saute onions until very soft and translucent
- Mix the onions, sausage, pine nuts, finely chopped herbs of your choice until smooth and creamy.
- -
- Heat the oven to 350F
- Cut puff pastry into strips about 4 inch wide. Roll them out lengthwise with a rolling pin as long as they would allow you.
- Arrange a strip of farce in the middle of the pastry, about 1 inch thick.
- Whisk the egg and brush along the pastry edges.
- Roll the pasty up around the sausage stuffing, place seam down on a board.
- Brush the egg over the roll and sprinkle it liberally with seeds.
- Cut into 1-1/4 inch bites with a sharp knife. Place on an un-greased baking sheet 1 inch apart and bake for 15 minutes, or until very pleasantly golden-brown (see photo for your reference)
- Serve warm.
