How to make it
- Heat the milk and flour over medium heat until thick, stirring constantly. Let cool until completely cool - THIS IS IMPORTANT.
- Beat the sugar, shortening, butter, and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add the cooled flour/milk mixture and beat again until light and fluffy. This may take several minutes.
- *A stand mixer makes the beating process a lot easier. Do not use 'diet' margarine or spreads or the filling will not work.
