Polynesian Meat Balls With Cabbage Recipe
A very flavourful cabbage and meat balls dish with the sweeteness of pineapple. Yum!

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef or pork
  • 1 cup soft bread crumbs
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • Oil for deep frying
  • 1 - 19 ozs can pineapple chunks
  • 1 lb cabbage, cut in 1 1/2 pieces
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 medium green pepper, slices
  • 1 OXO beef cube or 1 1/2 tsp beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp each of ginger and white pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp each soy sauce, cornstarch, cold water

Directions
  1. Combine beef, bread crumbs, egg, onion, salt, pepper and allspice.
  2. Drain pineapple, save the juice.
  3. Shape 12 meat balls, using two pineapple chunks in the center of each meat ball. Deep fry the meat balls in hot 360 degrees oil until browned. Drain on absorbent paper.
  4. Sauté cabbage and green pepper in 1 tbsp cooking oil. Stir in beef cube or broth dissolved in boiling water.
  5. Add remaining pineapple chuncks, pineapple juice, ginger, white pepper, sugar and soy sauce.
  6. Stir in cornstarch mixed with cold water. Bring to a boil and cook until thickened.
  7. Add meat balls and simmer about 25 to 30 minutes. Serve immediately with a side of basmati rice or rice of your choice.

Sounds good. I like the juxtaposition of the cabbage and sweet. I'll break out the mai tai mix and the hula skirts and make this some time.
