Polynesian Meat Balls with Cabbage

- 1 1/2 lb ground beef or pork shopping list
- 1 cup soft bread crumbs shopping list
- 1 beaten egg shopping list
- 1 small onion, chopped shopping list
- 1 tsp salt shopping list
- 1/8 tsp pepper shopping list
- 1/4 tsp allspice shopping list
- oil for deep frying shopping list
- 1 - 19 ozs can pineapple chunks shopping list
- 1 lb cabbage, cut in 1 1/2 pieces shopping list
- 1 tbsp cooking oil shopping list
- 1 medium green pepper, slices shopping list
- 1 OXO beef cube or 1 1/2 tsp beef broth shopping list
- 1 cup water shopping list
- 1/2 tsp each of ginger and white pepper shopping list
- 1 tsp sugar shopping list
- 2 tbsp each soy sauce, cornstarch, cold water shopping list
How to make it
- Combine beef, bread crumbs, egg, onion, salt, pepper and allspice.
- Drain pineapple, save the juice.
- Shape 12 meat balls, using two pineapple chunks in the center of each meat ball. Deep fry the meat balls in hot 360 degrees oil until browned. Drain on absorbent paper.
- Sauté cabbage and green pepper in 1 tbsp cooking oil. Stir in beef cube or broth dissolved in boiling water.
- Add remaining pineapple chuncks, pineapple juice, ginger, white pepper, sugar and soy sauce.
- Stir in cornstarch mixed with cold water. Bring to a boil and cook until thickened.
- Add meat balls and simmer about 25 to 30 minutes. Serve immediately with a side of basmati rice or rice of your choice.
