Barbecue Sauce Recipe

Barbecue Sauce Recipe
A great homemade barbecue sauce; recipe from Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. I usually use bottled BBQ sauce, but if I have time to make it special, I make this. Great on pulled pork, burgers, steaks, and chicken.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 c. minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 TBSP. olive oil
  • 3/4 c. apple juice
  • 1/2 of a 6 oz. can tomato paste (1/3 c.)
  • 1/4 c. cider vinegar
  • 2 TBSP. brown sugar
  • 2 TBSP. molasses
  • 1 TBSP. paprika
  • 1 TBSP. prepared horseradish
  • 1 TBSP. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper

Directions
  1. In a medium saucepan cook onion and garlic over medium heat in olive oil until onion is tender. Stir in remaining ingredients.
  2. Bring to a boil; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, about 30 min. or until desired consistency (it will thicken as it cooks), stirring occassionally.
  3. To use, brush chicken, pork, or beef with some of the sauce during the last 10 min. of grilling. If desired, reheat and pass additional sauce. Or mix with pulled pork, beef, or chicken for sandwiches. Cover and chill any leftovers for up to three days.
