Braised Cabbage Recipe
this is a old home made side dish, very good with any tipe of meat,paprikas,and goulashes,you have to try it.

Ingredients
  • 3 lb cabbage-chredded (red or white cabbage)
  • 2-3 tbs sugar
  • 1 sm onions-diced
  • 4-tbs oil
  • 1-1/2 tbs vinegar
  • pinch of caraway seed-crushed
  • 1/4 salt

Directions
  1. Shred the cabbage into a large bowl and sprinkle with salt.
  2. After about 30 minutes squeeze out excess fluid from the cabbage.
  3. In a large skillet saute the onion in hot oil until soft.
  4. Than mix in sugar and then the squeesed out cabbage.
  5. Pour in the vinegar ,sprinkle with crushed caraway seed.
  6. cover tightly and let this braise on low heat.
  7. Do not stir a lot because the cabbage will braek apart to much.

This sounds very close to how my Mom did hers. I know that she spent time in Ungarn (Hungary) so maybe thats where she got it from??????
