Ingredients
  • 4 ripe Bartlett pears
  • 16 oz black currant juice
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Directions
  1. This is tart sweet and we enjoy it that way.
  2. Peel pears and cut off thin slice from bottom so pears remain upright.
  3. Leave stems on.
  4. Place pears in a sauce pot and add juice, honey and
  5. cinnamon stick.
  6. Bring to a boil, lower heat to a gentle bubble and cover and
  7. poach 15 to 20 minutes or tender when pierced with a wooden skewer.
  8. Remove from heat and let pears stay in liquid till warm.
  9. Carefully remove pears.
  10. Return pan to heat and cook liquid to reduce by half or becoming a bit syrupy.
  11. Adjust sweetness with a bit more honey if desired.
  12. Serves pears warm with extra sauce.
  13. Optional but nice is to serve with custard, clotted cream or vanilla ice cream on the side.
  14. Garnish with a mint leaf is nice too.
  15. Yield: 4 servings with extra sauce

This looks so pretty and is so delicious. I had something similar in Portugal, although poached in wine - such a delicious recipe!

Sounds terrific! High FIVE! :+D

This sounds lovely, seasonally ideal, and a not-so-heavy dessert.
