Bavarian Apple Torte

- Crust: shopping list
- 1/2 c. stick butter or margarine shopping list
- 1/3 c. granulated sugar shopping list
- 1/4 tsp. vanilla shopping list
- 1 c. all-purpose flour shopping list
- Filling: shopping list
- 1 - 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese, softened shopping list
- 1/4 c. granulated sugar shopping list
- 1 large egg shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla shopping list
- Topping: shopping list
- 1/3 c. granulated sugar shopping list
- 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon shopping list
- 4 c. cooking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced shopping list
- 1/4 c. slivered almonds shopping list
- whipped cream, optional shopping list
How to make it
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
- Crust: Beat butter, sugar, and vanilla in medium bowl. Add flour; mix well. Do not overbeat, or crust will be tough. Press dough into bottom and 1 to 1 1/2 inches up side of a 9-inch springform pan.
- Filling: Combine cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla in medium bowl; beat to blend well. Spread filling over dough in pan.
- Topping: Combine sugar and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Toss with apples. Arrange apples in concentric circles over cheese filling layer. Sprinkle with almonds.
- Bake for 10 minutes at 450; reduce heat to 400 degrees and bake and additional 25 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown. Run thin knife between crust and pan; cool in pan 15 minutes. Remove sides of pan. Cool completely. Chill until serving.
- Slice into wedges and top with whipped cream to serve.
