Greek Ouzo Cake

One of the best of it's kind. Worth the effort
Ingredients
- CAKE: shopping list
- 2 sticks (1 cup) butter, melted and cooled shopping list
- 6 large eggs, well beaten shopping list
- 2 teaspoons baking soda, dissolved in the beaten eggs shopping list
- 1 cup finely copped, sliced almonds shopping list
- 2 cups all purpose flour shopping list
- 2 cups granulated sugar shopping list
- 1 cup plain yogurt (I use Greek yogurt) shopping list
- 2 ounces ouzo shopping list
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon shopping list
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves shopping list
- SYRUP: shopping list
- 3 cups granulated sugar shopping list
- 2 cups water shopping list
- 1/2 of-or-1 whole lemon, sliced shopping list
- 4 cinnamon sticks shopping list
- 10 whole cloves shopping list
How to make it
- FOR CAKE:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F).
- Grease a 9x13x2 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together with a mixer.
- Put mixture into the greased pan.
- Bake for 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out
- clean.
- FOR SYRUP:
- Put all ingredients in medium saucepan and slowly boil for 30
- minutes.
- Cool, take out lemon, cinnamon sticks, and whole cloves, and pour
- syrup over hot cake.
