Ingredients
  • CAKE:
  • 2 sticks (1 cup) butter, melted and cooled
  • 6 large eggs, well beaten
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda, dissolved in the beaten eggs
  • 1 cup finely copped, sliced almonds
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup plain yogurt (I use Greek yogurt)
  • 2 ounces ouzo
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • SYRUP:
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 of-or-1 whole lemon, sliced
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 10 whole cloves

Directions
  1. FOR CAKE:
  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (F).
  3. Grease a 9x13x2 inch baking pan.
  4. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together with a mixer.
  5. Put mixture into the greased pan.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out
  7. clean.
  8. FOR SYRUP:
  9. Put all ingredients in medium saucepan and slowly boil for 30
  10. minutes.
  11. Cool, take out lemon, cinnamon sticks, and whole cloves, and pour
  12. syrup over hot cake.
