My family couldn't get enough of these pasties - making them and eating them! I combined a lot of ideas from a number of different recipes for pasties and came up with these.

Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups diced potatoes
  • 2 large carrots, cleaned and diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp fine herbs (parsley, sage, thyme, and chives)
  • a few dashes of worchestershire sauce
  • 4 cups of flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/3 cups shortening
  • 12 TBSP ice cold water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 TBSP milk
  • pinch of salt

Directions
  1. Brown the ground beef with 1 tsp. salt
  2. Drain ground beef and add potatoes, carrots, and onion - cook until the potatoes and carrots begin to soften.
  3. Add mushroom soup, garlic powder, fine herbs and worchestershire sauce and heat through.
  4. Chill filling in fridge.
  5. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  6. Mix flour and 1 tsp salt.
  7. Cut in shortening.
  8. Add water all at once and mix well, forming into ball.
  9. Divide dough into 8 equal portions and place in fridge to chill.
  10. Roll each ball of dough out onto lightly floured surface into a circle about the size of a salad plate.
  11. Place one 8th of the filling onto one side of the dough circle. Fold the other side of the dough over the filling and pinch the edges together to close.
  12. Place the pies onto a lightly greased cookie sheet.
  13. Beat the two eggs with the milk and pinch of salt to make egg wash.
  14. Cut 3 slits into the top of each pie, to vent.
  15. Brush each pie with egg wash.
  16. Cook for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
