Ingredients

1 cup sugar

1 cup margarine or butter, softened

1 egg, separated

2 cups all-purpose flour*

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 tablespoon water

1/2 cup very finely chopped walnuts

*Self-rising flour can also be used (Deb, that's for you!)

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees

Mix sugar, margarine and egg yolk.

Stir in flour and cinnamon.

Press in lightly greased jelly roll pan.

(15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1 inch or use 2 baking pans, one 8x8x2 inches and one 9x9x2 inches)

Beat egg white and water until foamy; brush over dough.

Sprinkle with walnuts.

Bake until very light brown, 20 - 25 minutes

Immediately cut into strips, 3x1 inch

I have this exact recipe - from the mother of one of my co-workers. She makes them for us one in awhile. We call them 'pie crust cookies' because they remind us of the 'tarts' that my mom would make when we were kids - leftover pie crust scraps sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and baked.
