From bestcooker 15 years agoIngredients

- 1 teaspoon baking soda shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 2 Tablespoons unsweetened baking cocoa shopping list
- two 1 ounce bottles red food coloring shopping list
- 1 cup buttermilk shopping list
- 1 Tablespoon vinegar shopping list
- 2 teaspoons vanilla shopping list
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened shopping list
- 1-1/2 cups sugar shopping list
- 3 large eggs shopping list
How to make it
- Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 13X9 pan and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- In a small bowl, mix together cocoa and food coloring until smooth; set aside.
- In a glass measuring cup, stir together buttermilk, vinegar, and vanilla; set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. One at a time, add eggs, beating well after each addition. Blend in food coloring mixture. On low speed, add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk mixture, beginning and ending with flour. Mix just until blended after each addition. Pour into prepared pan. Bake 30-35 mins. or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely and frost with your favorite white frosting.
- Note: Cake can also be made in two 9-inch round cake pans. Grease and flour pans and line bottoms with parchment paper. Bake layers 20-25 mins. Cool 10 mins. in pans. Remove cakes and cool completely on wire rack. Fill and frost as desired. Cake flour tends to clump and settle, so don't skip sifting it to aerate it for best results.
